Texts such as Guhydtiguhya-tantra, Todala-tantra, and Mundamala-tantra compare the ten Mahavidyas to the ten avatars of Vishnu. According to scholar David Kinsley, although the Mahavidyas serve less cosmic roles than the avatars of Vishnu, their purpose is to show that through her various forms, Mahadevi pervades all aspects of reality.
