<p><a href="page.php?w=Bell_Labs">Bell Labs</a>, <a href="page.php?w=General_Electric">General Electric</a> (later <a href="page.php?w=Honeywell">Honeywell</a>) and was led by <a href="page.php?w=Fernando_J._Corbat%C3%B3">Fernando Corbató</a> from MIT. Multics was written in the <a href="page.php?w=PL%2FI">PL/I</a> language developed by IBM and IBM User Group. IBM's goal was to satisfy business, scientific, and systems programming requirements. There were other languages that could have been considered but PL/I offered the most complete solution</p><p>
