Kronecker in the 1880s, Hilbert in 1890, Lasker in 1905, and Macaulay in 1913 further investigated the ideals of polynomial rings implicit in E. Noether's work. Lasker proved a special case of the Lasker-Noether theorem, namely that every ideal in a polynomial ring is a finite intersection of primary ideals.
