<p>In order to resolve the ambiguity of which bits define which samples, the DIB headers provide certain defaults as well as specific BITFIELDS, which are bit masks that define the membership of particular group of bits in a pixel to a particular <a href="page.php?w=Channel_%28digital_image%29">channel</a>.
