m high Flagstaff Hill has a long history of slipping and had suffered significant slumping during a storm in 1999. In June 2019, Port Otago started $2.9 million project to stabilise the east and north-east sides of Flagstaff Hill and return Beach Street to its original position. A series of terraces is being created and approximately 45,000m³ of excess rock and sediment is to be removed.
