<p>The suffix 'cester' is derived from the <a href="page.php?w=Old_English">Old English</a> word 'ceaster', which meant a <a href="page.php?w=Roman_fort">Roman fort</a> or town, and derived from the <a href="page.php?w=Latin">Latin</a> 'castrum', from which the modern word '<a href="page.php?w=castle">castle</a>' also derives.</p>
