<p>CS gas was first <a href="page.php?w=Chemical_synthesis">synthesized</a> by two Americans, Ben Corson and Roger Stoughton, at <a href="page.php?w=Middlebury_College">Middlebury College</a> in <a href="page.php?w=Vermont">Vermont</a> in 1928, and the chemical's name is derived from the first letters of the scientists' surnames.</p>
