Stith worked with the Tanzanian government to enable them to become one of the first Sub-Saharan African countries to reach the decision point for debt relief under the enhanced Heavily-Indebted Poor Countries Initiative (HIPC).

After his ambassadorship, Stith received an appointment to the Faculty of the Boston University Department of International Relations, and taught a course on Africa and Globalization. He retired from Boston University in 2015. He was formerly
