<p><big> Etymology and description </big></p>
<p>The name "Cynodontia" (literally "dog tooth") was given by <a href="page.php?w=Richard_Owen">Richard Owen</a> in 1861, in which he noted their distinctive pair of <a href="page.php?w=Canine_tooth">canine</a>-like upper teeth that he noted as similar to those of living <a href="page.php?w=Carnivora">carnivoran</a> mammals.</p>
