<p>Sheffer proved in 1913 that <a href="page.php?w=Boolean_algebra">Boolean algebra</a> could be defined using a single primitive binary operation, "not both . . . and . . .", now abbreviated <a href="page.php?w=logical_NAND">NAND</a>, or its dual <a href="page.php?w=logical_NOR">NOR</a>, (in the sense of "neither . . . nor"). Likewise, the <a href="page.php?w=propositional_calculus">propositional calculus</a></p><p>
