In periods of German rule, their region initially belonged to the March of Meissen, and later to the Land of Bautzen, known since the 15th century as Upper Lusatia. Modern descendants of the Milceni are the Upper Sorbian-speaking Sorbs of the Free State of Saxony, in Germany.
