<p>The street Shad Thames appears by name on <a href="page.php?w=John_Rocque">John Rocque</a>'s 1747 map of London. One theory is that the name is a corruption of 'St John-at-Thames', possibly linked to the <a href="page.php?w=Order_of_Knights_of_the_Hospital_of_Saint_John_of_Jerusalem">Order of Knights of the Hospital of Saint John of Jerusalem</a>, which owned land in the area.</p>
