of the school a place outside the city walls known as The Horsefair. According to David Palliser however, St Peter's was instead founded as a new school. This is due to this statement from Archbishop Holgate, where he declares the following:

"We will and command that the Deacons, not applienge themselves to the Gramer Scole (grammar school) daylie... be expulsed, and other called to ther rowne and office."(YCS 1900, 74-5)
