Yamagata Prefecture formed the southern half of the historic <a href="page.php?w=Dewa_Province">Dewa Province</a> with Akita Prefecture and is home to the <a href="page.php?w=Three_Mountains_of_Dewa">Three Mountains of Dewa</a>, which includes the Haguro Five-story Pagoda, a recognised <a href="page.php?w=National_Treasure_%28Japan%29">National Treasure of Japan</a>.</p><p>
