The name literally means "fox <a href="page.php?w=ear_%28botany%29">ear</a>". <a href="page.php?w=Rashi">Rashi</a> holds this to be oats, and <a href="page.php?w=Maimonides">Maimonides</a> holds it to be a type of "wild barley," while Rabbi <a href="page.php?w=Nathan_ben_Abraham">Nathan ben Abraham</a> called it by its Arabic name <i>sunbulat al-tha'alib</i> (Fox's spike).<br/>
