The semiconductor properties of GaAs and other <a href="page.php?w=Compound_semiconductor">III-V compounds</a> were patented by <a href="page.php?w=Heinrich_Welker">Heinrich Welker</a> at <a href="page.php?w=Siemens-Schuckert">Siemens-Schuckert</a> in 1951 and described in a 1952 publication.
