During its Platforms State of the Union event on June 9, 2025, Apple announced that Tahoe would be the final version of macOS to operate on Intel-based Macs.

In 2026, Apple announced macOS Golden Gate (version 27) at WWDC 2026. It will be the first version of macOS to run exclusively on Macs with Apple silicon and the last version with full Rosetta 2
