Morphologically, there are three main tectonic folds running from southwest to northeast. The main peaks and mountains of the northern chain are (from west to east): Silberplatten, Grenzchopf, Säntis, Altenalp Türm, Schäfler and Ebenalp (known for the Äscher hut and Wildkirchli caves).
