Hevelius in March 1672 and finally faded from view late May.

This was the first nova for which there are multiple and reliable observations. The next nova to be documented as comprehensively was Nova Ophiuchi 1841.

An historical study published in 2025 suggests it's possible that the CK Vul system may have had a previous classical nova eruption in 1408, that was recorded by Chinese astronomers.
