<p>The practice of Chinese materia medica stretches back for millennia. The earliest written record of prescriptions is the manuscript Recipes for 52 Ailments (<i>?????</i>, Wushí'èr Bìngfang), discovered in the <a href="page.php?w=Mawangdui">Mawangdui</a> tombs, which were sealed in 168&nbsp;BCE.</p>
