The five Wasile Districts comprise the northwestern half of the northeastern peninsula; together they cover 2,853.52 km², with 51,567 inhabitants in mid 2025. All the indigenous inhabitants speak North Halmahera languages, chiefly Tobelorese in the north (the Wasile districts) of the regency, and the related Togutil in the south (the Maba districts).
