In the 2024 general election, IFP won 17 seats with 3.85% of the vote. In June 2024, Inkatha Freedom Party agreed to join the ANC-led government of national unity (GNU). Leader of the IFP, Velenkosini Hlabisa, becameMinister of the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) in the coalition.
