<p>MM was originally developed for <a href="page.php?w=binary_image">binary image</a>s, and was later extended to <a href="page.php?w=grayscale">grayscale</a> <a href="page.php?w=Function_%28mathematics%29">functions</a> and images. The subsequent generalization to <a href="page.php?w=complete_lattice">complete lattice</a>s is widely accepted today as MM's theoretical foundation.</p>
