<p><big>Etymology</big></p>
<p>The term meridian comes from the Latin meridies, meaning "midday"; the <a href="page.php?w=subsolar_point">subsolar point</a> passes through a given meridian at solar <a href="page.php?w=noon">noon</a>, midway between the times of sunrise and sunset on that meridian.
