They form the core of a body of Taoist writings accrued over the following centuries, which was assembled by monks into the  canon starting in the 5th century CE. Early Taoism drew upon diverse influences, including the <a href="page.php?w=Shang">Shang</a> and <a href="page.php?w=Zhou_dynasty">Zhou</a> state</p><p>
