<p><big>Career</big></p>
<p>After the war ended, Hecht was sent to <a href="page.php?w=Occupation_of_Japan">occupied Japan</a>, where he became a staff writer with <a href="page.php?w=Stars_and_Stripes_%28newspaper%29">Stars and Stripes</a>. He returned to the US in March 1946 and immediately took advantage of the <a href="page.php?w=G.I._Bill">G.I. Bill</a> to study under the poet-critic <a href="page.php?w=John_Crowe_Ransom">John Crowe Ransom</a></p><p>
