<p>Pangea was the most recent supercontinent that existed. Its formation and breakup is a part of the larger <a href="page.php?w=supercontinent_cycle">supercontinent cycle</a> and the <a href="page.php?w=Wilson_cycle">Wilson cycle</a>. After the rifting and breakup of the previous supercontinent <a href="page.php?w=Rodinia">Rodinia</a> (825-740 Ma), new oceans opened, which included the <a href="page.php?w=Iapetus_Ocean">Iapetus Ocean</a> and the <a href="page.php?w=Rheic_Ocean">Rheic Ocean</a>s.
