In 1991, the commune was subdivided, creating the separate communes of Vitacura and Lo Barnechea.

Government

As a commune, Las Condes is a third-level administrative division of Chile and, as such, is governed by a mayor and councilors who are directly elected every four years. For the 2024-2028 term, the mayor is Catalina San Martín Cavada (Ind.),
