Dallas' current second-tallest building, Renaissance Tower, was built during this period to a height of 710 ft (216 m). Its height was later increased to 886 ft (270 m) in 1986.

The energy boom of the early 1980s led to a surge in skyscraper construction, including the completion of Bank of America Plaza, Comerica Bank Tower, Chase Tower, and Fountain Place.
