<p>were limited; in the late 1940s the canal ran below capacity because distribution laterals had not yet been finished and because negotiations were ongoing over federal reclamation law's 160-acre ownership limits for irrigation recipients. By around 1950, the Madera Canal reached its intended capacity and began delivering water at full volume to local districts.</p>
