<p><big> Etymology </big></p>
<p>Oomycota comes from <a href="page.php?w=wikt%3Aoo-">oo-</a>  and <a href="page.php?w=wikt%3A-mycete">-mycete</a> , referring to the large round <a href="page.php?w=oogonia">oogonia</a>, structures containing the female gametes, that are characteristic of the oomycetes.</p><p>
