Lal means "red" in Hindi, while Qila comes from Arabic, meaning "fortress." Originally known as the "Blessed Fort" (Qila-i-Mubarak), it served as the residence of the imperial family. The term Lal Qila is also used to refer to the <a href="page.php?w=Agra_Fort">Agra Fort</a>.</p>
