With the discovery of the nucleus being fresh, much research was being done on how to commercialize it. The use of the particle accelerator allowed scientists to understand better how atoms, atomic nuclei, and nucleons are held together. The Westinghouse atom smasher was the first particle accelerator built for industrial uses.</p><p>
