In the Cossack Hetmanate, the title was used for the administrative purposes, such as the head of the city, <a href="page.php?w=Grad_%28Slavic_settlement%29">City</a> Otaman (????????? ??????). Later such administrative uses were adopted by the <a href="page.php?w=Kuban_Cossacks">Kuban Cossacks</a> and were common in <a href="page.php?w=Kuban_Oblast">Kuban Oblast</a> with different variations.</p>
