In 1834, Audubon claimed that he tied silver threads to the legs of young <a href="page.php?w=eastern_phoebe">eastern phoebe</a>s at his farm (<a href="page.php?w=Mill_Grove">Mill Grove</a>) in Pennsylvania in 1805, and then resighted two of the birds as adults in 1806. However, the return rate he reported (40% of nestlings) is an extreme outlier compared to modern data (e.g., 1.6% of 549 banded nestlings, and 1.3% of 217 nestlings), and Audubon was in France when he claimed to have resighted</p><p>
