Ethnic tensions in Fiji

While Fiji was a British colony, the Colonial Sugar Refining Company brought large numbers of indentured Indian laborers to the islands to work on their sugar plantations. As of 2024, descendants of these laborers make up about a third of the population, but before 1987 they outnumbered Indigenous Fijians.
