Its best-known exponent is <a href="page.php?w=Edward_Lear">Edward Lear</a>, author of <a href="page.php?w=The_Owl_and_the_Pussycat">The Owl and the Pussycat</a> and hundreds of <a href="page.php?w=limerick_%28poetry%29">limericks</a>.</p>

<p>Nonsense verse is part of a long line of tradition predating Lear: the <a href="page.php?w=nursery_rhyme">nursery rhyme</a> <a href="page.php?w=Hey_Diddle_Diddle">Hey Diddle Diddle</a> could also be termed a nonsense</p><p>
