<p>The interstage or intergreen period is the period between the end of a green signal in one phase and the start of a green signal in the next phase. This normally includes an amber signal on approaches as the green phase ends, and an all-red stage, where all changing signals are red to allow the junction to clear. All red stages result in lost time, during which no road users can proceed through the junction.</p>
