<p>During the century after Rembrandt's death the techniques of etching and drypoint brought to their highest point by him gradually declined. By the late eighteenth century, with brilliant exceptions like <a href="page.php?w=Giovanni_Battista_Piranesi">Piranesi</a>, <a href="page.php?w=Giovanni_Battista_Tiepolo">Tiepolo</a> and <a href="page.php?w=Francisco_Goya">Goya</a> most etchings were reproductive or illustrative.
