Wien found that the charge-to-mass ratio depended on the nature of the gas in the discharge tube. English scientist <a href="page.php?w=J._J._Thomson">J. J. Thomson</a> later improved on the work of Wien by reducing the pressure to create the mass spectrograph.</p>
