In Peru, both of the species (Colossoma macropomum and Piaractus brachypomum) are called pacú and gamitana. Piaractus mesopotamicus of the <a href="page.php?w=Paran%C3%A1_River">Paraná</a>-<a href="page.php?w=Paraguay_River">Paraguay</a> basin is also called pacú in Paraguay and Argentina.</p>
