On <a href="page.php?w=Unix-like">Unix-like</a> systems, that API is usually part of an implementation of the <a href="page.php?w=C_standard_library">C library</a> (libc), such as <a href="page.php?w=glibc">glibc</a>, that provides <a href="page.php?w=wrapper_function">wrapper function</a>s for the system calls, often named the same as the system calls they invoke.</p><p>
