his uncle by marriage, Robert Lansing was Secretary of State under Woodrow Wilson. Growing up in a parsonage, Dulles was made to attend church daily. As his parents distrusted public education, Dulles was homeschooled by various private tutors.

Dulles graduated from Princeton University, where he participated in the American Whig-Cliosophic Society.
