Some of the earliest mills of this period were <a href="page.php?w=Murray%27s_Mills">Murray's Mills</a>, which were established next to the Rochdale Canal on Union Street (now Redhill Street) off <a href="page.php?w=Great_Ancoats_Street">Great Ancoats Street</a>, by Adam and George Murray in 1798.
