<p>There is no single definition of a distributed system, but two common properties are generally cited:<br/>
* There are several autonomous computational entities (computers or <a href="page.php?w=Node_%28networking%29">nodes</a>), each of which has its own local <a href="page.php?w=Memory_%28computers%29">memory</a>.<br/>
* The entities communicate with each other by message passing.</p>
