<p>At the turn of the twentieth century London did not have permanent salaried orchestras. The main music venues: <a href="page.php?w=Royal_Opera_House">Covent Garden</a>, the <a href="page.php?w=Royal_Philharmonic_Society">Philharmonic Society</a> and the <a href="page.php?w=Queen%27s_Hall">Queen's Hall</a> had their players engaged for the concert or season.</p>
