<p>of currents is known as the <a href="page.php?w=Dory_Rips">Dory Rips</a>. The water in Minas Basin is a dense and nearly opaque reddish brown due to large amounts of suspended silt which are continually churned by tidal currents. At mid-tide, the currents exceed 8 knots (4 m per second), and the flow in the deep, 5 km -wide channel on the north side of Cape Split equals the combined flow of all the rivers and streams on Earth together (about 4 km3 per hour).</p>
