<p>In each column, the beads in the lower groove represent single units of that column's value, while the bead in the upper shorter groove represents five units. This arrangement resembles a <a href="page.php?w=bi-quinary_coded_decimal">bi-quinary coded decimal</a> place-value system.</p>
