(1832). French cartographer and geographer Charles Picquet created a map outlining the forty-eight districts in Paris, using halftone color gradients, to provide a visual representation for the number of reported deaths due to cholera per every 1,000 inhabitants.

In 1854, John Snow, an epidemiologist
