<p>Growth of females stops at 20-22 years of age, and the average length after this age is 8.8 m. The estimated maximum size for females is over 10 m in length and more than 10 - 12 t in body mass. Males stop their growth at 18-20 years old.</p>

<p>Common minke whales (Northern Hemisphere species) are distinguished from other whales by a white band on each flipper. The body is usually black or dark-gray above and white underneath. Minke whales have between 240 and 360 baleen plates on each side of their mouths.</p>
